Thun Rithy

Thun Rithy (/tun ritiː/ | Khmer: ធន់ រិទ្ធី), born in 2000 in Kandal Province, is a prominent Kun Khmer Fighter, nicknamed “Neak Leng Kandab Dei Betong” and “Athireach Amboah Chao,” which translates to “the Cement Fist Fighter” and “King of the Bare-Knuckle,” respectively.

Early Life and Education

Born in Prek Thorng Village, Prek Luong Commune, Ksach Kandal District, Kandal Province, Rithy emerged from a poor family and completed only primary school due to poverty.

Passion for Kun Khmer

Driven by a profound passion for Cambodian Martial Arts, Rithy defied the initial lack of support from his family and those around him. Fearful of the dangers associated with the sport, his loved ones were initially unsupportive of his journey into Kun Khmer. However, his determination and skill in the ring gradually won them over after a series of impressive performances.

Under the guidance of his trainer Thun Sophea, a former fighter himself, Rithy honed his skills in Kun Khmer. Despite early struggles, he persevered, earning the support of his family, who encouraged him to train even harder.

Fighting Career

With a total of 91 fights under his belt, Thun Rithy boasts an impressive record of 73 wins, 16 losses, and 2 draws. Known for his striking prowess, he has achieved 36 victories by TKO, showcasing his dominance in the ring and has become a symbol of resilience and success.

Thun Rithy’s journey extends beyond Kun Khmer, as he also delved into mixed martial arts (MMA). Underlining his versatility, he earned a belt in MMA and made several international appearances, broadening his horizons and adding to his list of accomplishments.

Overcoming Adversities

Neak Leng Kandab Dei Betong’s path to fame was not without its challenges. Enduring severe injuries, he faced setbacks that would have deterred many, but his determination never wavered. He overcame adversities, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his craft.

Temporary Hiatus and Return

At one point, Rithy took a hiatus from Kun Khmer, providing training in a Kun Khmer boxing gym in Siem Reap province. However, the call of the arena proved too strong, leading him to return with renewed vigor, solidifying his status as the King of Bare-Knuckle Fighting, especially given his recent success in this category.

Thun Rithy’s journey from a disadvantaged background to becoming a renowned Kun Khmer and MMA fighter exemplifies the power of passion, perseverance, and the indomitable human spirit in the face of adversity.

In the rematch between Rithy and the seasoned Thai fighter Saiyok Pumpanmuang, Rithy managed to secure only a draw despite the intense competition.
