Rin Devit (Khmer: រិន ដេវីត), born in 2003, is a prominent Kun Khmer fighter from Kandal Province, Cambodia.
Journey into Kun Khmer
Devit’s journey into the world of Kun Khmer commenced at the age of 7 in Koh Sotin district, Kandal Province. Motivated by a blend of financial necessity and an innate passion for combat sports, he was introduced to the boxing gym by his uncle, where he swiftly discovered his affinity for Kun Khmer.
Initially encountering skepticism, Devit’s pursuit of Kun Khmer received steadfast support from his father, while his mother reserved her endorsement until witnessing his early triumphs in the ring. Undeterred by initial obstacles, Davit committed himself to relentless training, dedicating three years to honing his skills before making his debut in official competition.
Achievements
Since his debut, Devit has carved out a distinguished reputation in the realm of Kun Khmer, earning acclaim as a formidable contender in national events and championships broadcasted on various TV stations across the country. Drawing inspiration from revered fighters like Khim Dima, Devit has emerged as a dynamic force within the sport, propelled by an unwavering determination and an insatiable work ethic.
Devit’s journey to the top of the Kun Khmer arena has been marked by remarkable achievements, including clinching multiple coveted belts from esteemed TV stations like PNN and TV5. His recent victory against a formidable opponent from Uzbekistan was a testament to his exceptional skill and precision, culminating in a decisive knockout with a devastating right elbow strike that left the referee with no choice but to stop the fight.
With this notable win bolstering his reputation, Devit eagerly set his sights on his next challenge: a highly anticipated showdown in the final round for the prestigious Ganzberg Kun Khmer belt on January 2024. However, both Devit and his legion of fans were left disheartened by the controversial outcome of the final match, shrouded in allegations of biased scoring, prompting intervention from the Kun Khmer federation. Consequently, the title was temporarily withheld from Ienglai, and the prize pool split, awaiting a rematch between Ienglai and Davit to determine the rightful champion. After the incident, a few judges were suspended from jobs. The lingering uncertainty was put to rest on March 14, 2024, as both contenders reconvened (using MMA gloves), witnessing Rin Davit’s dominating performance as he swiftly knocked down Ienglai in the first round, thereby solidifying his status as the true champion.
