Chamroeun Kun Khmer (Khmer: ចម្រើន គុនខ្មែរ), previously known as Ly Chamroeun or Rithy Chamroeun, was born in 1998 in Kampong Speu Province. Standing 1.70 meters tall and weighing 57 kg, he is a professional Kun Khmer fighter who has made a name for himself in the sport. Throughout his career, he has displayed remarkable skill and dedication.
Chamroeun’s journey began as a farmer, inspired by a friend of his brother who was a boxer. With the support of his parents, he pursued his dream and moved to Phnom Penh in around 2011 to train at Niroth Meanchey Boxing Gym under master Em Chansophal. Training alongside notable fighters like Chan Bunhoeun and Em Lengly, Chamroeun claimed victory in his debut match, which fueled his passion even more.
Despite facing moments of doubt and considering migration for work, Chamroeun’s commitment to Kun Khmer kept him going. His dedication paid off, and he gained recognition in 2023. However, an unfortunate incident in July 2023, where he broke his hand while fighting a Thai fighter on the CNC ring, forced him to take a long break from the ring.
Chamroeun made a triumphant return to the Kun Khmer world, training at Kun Khmer Daun Ta, run by Town Full HDTV. This provided him with more opportunities as Town TV hosts numerous boxing events weekly. On December 30, 2024, Chamroeun surprised his fans by participating in the Knockout event in Japan. Despite doubts from many fans, Chamroeun knocked down a Japanese fighter in the first round, with a referee’s stoppage. This victory was even more surprising as fans had higher expectations for his fellow fighter, Pich Sambath, who unfortunately lost by referee stoppage in the third round.
Chamroeun’s journey is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and passion for Kun Khmer, making him a respected and admired figure in the sport.
