Chan Sam Art

Sam Art Kun Khmer (Khmer: សំអាត គុនខ្មែរ), officially Chan Sam Art, born in 1995 in Oddar Meanchey Province, is a renowned professional Kun Khmer fighter and former MMA champion. Nicknamed Khla Chas Phnom Dang Raek” (Old Tiger of Phnom Dang Raek), Sam Art is celebrated for his powerful fistwork and relentless fighting style.

Sam Art began his martial arts journey in 2013, initially training in MMA before transitioning to Kun Khmer. Reflecting on his past, he admits that before discovering martial arts, he struggled with discipline and was far from being a role model in his village. However, the rigorous training and principles of martial arts transformed his life—both personally and financially.

Initially, Sam Art faced resistance from his parents, who were hesitant about his commitment to martial arts. Over time, as they witnessed his dedication and success, they became his strongest supporters. Today, Sam Art credits Kun Khmer and MMA for shaping his character and giving him a sense of purpose.

Although Sam Art is passionate about both MMA and Kun Khmer, the rising popularity of Kun Khmer led him to focus on this traditional Cambodian art form. He joined Kun Khmer Daun Ta, a gym managed by Town Full HDTV, which provides him with more opportunities to compete and grow in the sport.

Sam Art’s career hasn’t been without setbacks—he has taken time away from the ring to recover from arm injuries. Despite these challenges, his resilience and commitment to the sport have inspired fans and aspiring fighters alike.

Sam Art continues to embody the spirit of Kun Khmer, proudly representing his craft and roots on the national stage..

NOTE: Fight records of Kun Khmer fighters vary across TV stations. Therefore, I maintain an independent tally, adding one after each new fight to ensure consistency. These statistics include bouts under all rules such as Kun Khmer, Mas Fight, MMA, and Kickboxing and at all levels, including amateur fights, as Kun Khmer has historically lacked a standardized recording system. As a result, totals may appear higher than those of some international fighters, whose records often include only professional bouts.
