Him Kimrieng

Him Kimrieng (Khmer: ហ៊ឹម គឹមរៀង), born in 2005 in Battambang Province, is a professional Kun Khmer fighter who has steadily built a reputation in the sport. Standing at 1.72 meters and weighing 54 kilograms, he trains under master Ven Sovath at the Sopheap Kun Khmer gym.

Kimrieng began his training in late 2017, inspired by his elder brother, Him Serey, who also pursued a career in Kun Khmer. For both brothers, martial arts have been more than just a passion; they have been a means to improve their livelihoods and bring pride to their family.

His career highlights include a notable victory over an Afghan fighter, Yasin, on 11 January 2025, during the Xtreme Cambodia Kun Khmer event hosted by Hang Meas Full HDTV. This win ended Yasin’s 23-bout undefeated streak, marking a significant milestone in Kimrieng’s career.

Additionally, he has represented Cambodia on the international stage, winning a gold medal in the 54kg category at the 2023 SEA Games, held in Cambodia. His success continued at the 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championship, where he secured another gold medal by defeating Vietnamese fighter Nguyen Ngoc Hoang on 12 October 2024. This victory contributed to Cambodia’s overall success at the tournament, where the country claimed a total of 10 medals, including those won by other Cambodian athletes such as Chha Chandang, Tuon Sreypin, Nov Sreypov, Touch Chanvotey, Kham Konkhla, Kham Khlaneang, Chhong Visal, and Sok Rith. Kimrieng’s story reflects the broader narrative of many Cambodian fighters who use Kun Khmer as a pathway to personal and professional growth. While his accomplishments are noteworthy, they are also a testament to the hard work and sacrifices required to succeed in a demanding and competitive sport.
