Maeun Sophea

Maeun Sophea (Khmer: ម៉ឺន សុភា), born in 1991 in Kandal province, is a retired Kun Khmer Fighter, renowned for his deadly fists, earning him the nickname “Nak Leng Kandab Dai Thmor,” which translates to “the Stone Fist Fighter.”

Early Life and Introduction to Kun Khmer

Growing up in Kandal Province to humble farmer parents, Sophea left school after 10th grade, compelled by financial difficulties at home. Seeking better opportunities, he ventured to Phnom Penh, where he secured a job as a security staff at Angkor Youth Boxing Gym. Recognizing his physical prowess, the gym owner suggested he train in Kun Khmer. With unwavering commitment, Sophea quickly honed his skills. Within two months of training, he boldly challenged fellow Kun Khmer fighter Phann Phalla on CTN, emerging victorious with a TKO. Notably, he secured his first five fights with TKO victories, establishing himself as a rising star in the sport.

    SEA Games Story

At the SEA Games 2017 hosted by Malaysia, Meung Sophea clinched a silver medal in the 71kg category, despite falling to Thai opponent Aneung Khattamarasri in the kickboxing finals.

    Retirement and Comeback

In around 2019, Sophea took a hiatus from the ring due to injuries and personal matters. However, in September 2021, he made a triumphant return, stepping into the ring against Canadian fighter Daniel, who was training in Cambodia. Despite the prolonged absence, grappling with physical challenges, and the inevitable effects of aging, Sophea demonstrated his enduring skill, delivering numerous powerful punches to his opponent. Notably, Daniel had recently secured victory over the seasoned fighter Vong Noy via TKO. However, he couldn’t withstand Sophea’s prowess, ultimately conceding defeat as Sophea claimed victory by points.

At the time of writing this article, I have limited information about Sophea, including his absence from the ring and subsequent comeback. Further updates regarding Sophea’s recent activities and any subsequent disappearances will be provided as more information becomes available.
