Rith Arun (Khmer: រិទ្ធ អារុណ) is a professional Kun Khmer fighter born in 1991 in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Known for his dedication to the sport and his efforts to promote Kun Khmer both locally and internationally, Arun has built a career that spans over two decades.
Standing at 1.70 meters tall and competing at 60 kilogram weight class, he fights with a southpaw stance and trains under the guidance of trainer Thun Sophea at the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) Boxing Gym.
Arun began his journey in Kun Khmer in 2003, training under Master Sek Kimsorn. In 2006, he moved to Phnom Penh to further hone his skills at the RCAF Boxing Gym. Over the years, he developed a reputation, earning respect within the Cambodian martial arts community.
In 2016, Arun’s career took an international turn when he was invited by Cambodian-French trainer to Japan to train local fighters and promote Kun Khmer abroad. For nearly a decade, he shared his knowledge and helped to raise awareness of the traditional Cambodian martial art. During this period, he also supported visiting Cambodian fighters participating in events across Japan, ensuring they had access to resources and guidance while competing overseas. His time in Japan not only allowed him to grow as a trainer but also deepened his commitment to preserving and promoting Kun Khmer on a global stage.
After spending ten years in Japan, Arun returned to Cambodia in early 2025. Despite being away from the domestic circuit for some time, he quickly resumed competitive fighting, demonstrating that his skills remained sharp. In one of his recent bouts against a Moroccan opponent, Arun delivered a powerful punch to the abdomen, securing a knockout victory in the second round. The fight highlighted his continued ability to adapt and compete at a high level.
Now back in Cambodia, Arun balances his passion for fighting with personal commitments, particularly his family ties, which have anchored him to his home country. He hopes to continue competing if circumstances allow and if fans continue to support his journey. Beyond his own aspirations, Arun remains deeply invested in promoting Kun Khmer, whether through training others or supporting fellow fighters in their pursuits.
For Rith Arun, Kun Khmer is more than just a profession; it is a lifelong mission to preserve and elevate Cambodia’s rich martial arts heritage. Whether inside the ring or behind the scenes, his contributions reflect a genuine dedication to the craft and its enduring legacy.
