Vorn Viva


    Vorn Viva (Khmer: វ៉ន វីវ៉ា), born Chhuon Sok Leng on July 7, 1984, in Kampong Cham province, is a celebrated retired Kun Khmer fighter who left an indelible mark on the fight scene. Renowned for his precise and sharp elbow strikes, Viva boasts a SEA Games 2011 bronze medal and the prestigious ISKA World Championship title among his accolades.

    Early Life and Introduction to Kun Khmer

    Raised in modest surroundings as the eldest son among four brothers, Vorn Viva’s childhood was marked by financial hardship. Despite attending Khlay 3 Primary School, he often missed classes to assist his family in earning a livelihood. However, fate had other plans for him, leading him to stumble upon the world of Kun Khmer.

    Journey into Kun Khmer

    Initially disinterested in boxing, Vorn Viva’s perception changed after witnessing the emotional final match between Nuon Bora and San Sao Yan. Captivated by the sport, he began training under the tutelage of Mr. Chhun Chea Rithy at the Chhun Chea Rithy Gym. Despite initial reservations from his parents, Viva’s dedication to the sport grew, leading to his clandestine training sessions and eventual family support.

    Rise to Prominence

    Vorn Viva’s journey to prominence was not without challenges. Despite his apprehension, he made his debut in the ring against Chey Komsat, a seasoned fighter, securing a remarkable victory in his first match. Overcoming bouts of nervousness, he continued to hone his skills and participated in national events, earning recognition for his exceptional talent.

    Legendary Matches and International Success

    Vorn Viva’s ascent to stardom reached new heights when he faced renowned fighters such as Chea Tot and Thun Sophea, emerging victorious and solidifying his status as a heavyweight contender. His training under esteemed coaches like Master Chhun Chea Rithy and Master Troeung Sos Say propelled him to international acclaim.

    ISKA World Championship Triumph

    In a defining moment in his career, Vorn Viva clinched the ISKA World Championship title by defeating German champion Alban Amedi in a unanimous victory televised on CTN. His successful defense of the title against British fighter Ben Barwise showcased his legendary name.

    SEA Games Journey

    Representing Cambodia at the 26th SEA Games 2011 hosted by Indonesia, Vorn Viva’s remarkable journey culminated in a bronze medal,​ after losing to the host fighter Alex Tatontos in the Semi Finals.

    Retirement and Resurrection

    Vorn Viva retired from the ring in 2016 due to arm injury when he went against a Swede fighter. During the retirement he provided training in the Kun Khmer Academy and he also expressed his intention to return to the arena.
