Lao Chantrea (Khmer: ឡៅ ចន្ទ្រា) , born in 1993, is a distinguished professional Kun Khmer fighter from Kampong Speu Province. Widely recognized by his moniker, Neay Sangha Kun Khmer Kaeng Machureach, loosely translating to “The Handsome Kun Khmer Fighter with life-taking elbow,” Chantrea has earned a formidable reputation in the realm of Cambodian martial arts.
Personal Life and Family Legacy
Born in Trapaing Pur, Phnom Touch Commune, Oudong District, Kampong Speu Province, Chantrea is deeply rooted in the rich tradition of Cambodian martial arts. Hailing from a family with a storied lineage in the annals of Cambodian combat sports, he is surrounded by accomplished siblings. His elder brother, Lao Sinat, is revered as an all-time legend in Cambodian martial arts.
Meanwhile, his younger brother, Lao Chetra, holds the title of one of the most beloved Kun Khmer fighters, known for his respectful demeanor, maturity, non-aggressive approach, and unwavering determination, showcasing deadly skills in the arena. Chantrea’s family legacy extends further with another younger brother, Lao Sayneth, who is rapidly emerging as a rising star in the world of Kun Khmer.
SEA Games Journey
In the 2023 edition of the SEA Games, hosted by Cambodia in Phnom Penh, Lao Chantrea achieved a significant milestone by securing the gold medal in the men’s 75kg category. His triumph came after a compelling final-round victory over Vietnamese boxer Nguyen Hong Quan. This marked Chantrea’s second international accolade, following his bronze medal win at a kick-boxing event in the SEA Games edition hosted by the Philippines in 2019.
With each competition, Lao Chantrea continues to carve his legacy as a skilled and accomplished Kun Khmer fighter on the global stage.
On January 4, 2024, at the “Battle of the King” event organized by KTV in Phnom Penh, Chantrea seized the Krud Kun Khmer Belt by securing a victory against the seasoned Thai Fighter Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee with a unanimous decision.
