Thun Vanna

Thun Vanna (Khmer: ធន់ វណ្ណា), born in 2004 and better known by his ring moniker “Sdach Tok Kae” translated to “the Gecko King”, is a professional Kun Khmer fighter originally from Kratie Province, Cambodia. Vanna burst onto the Kun Khmer scene and rapidly ascended through its ranks, earning widespread acclaim for his masterful clinching techniques and unyielding stamina. His nickname, inspired by the gecko’s reputed ability to endure and adapt, perfectly encapsulates his approach in the ring.

From a modest background, Vanna’s life took a pivotal turn when he was taken under the wing of revered Kun Khmer Master Thun Sophea at the RCAF Boxing Association. Under Sophea’s meticulous guidance, he honed his orthodox stance and fighting techniques, propelling him into the limelight of Kun Khmer fighting.

    Career Highlights

Throughout his still-burgeoning career, Thun Vanna has faced numerous formidable opponents, including foreign fighters. However, his most notable bout came recently when he decided to face off against Pich Sambath, known as “the Wild Buffalo” with the condition to have a belt of the one defeated taken away. In this intense five-round battle, Vanna fought valiantly but ultimately losing by points, losing his only Krud Kun Khmer belt as well as ending a 30-fight undefeated streak. This rare defeat in his otherwise stellar record tested not only his physical skills but also his mental resilience, as he navigated the complexities of experiencing loss at such a high level for the first time. Sambath is known for his excellent stamina, but Vanna continued to exchange punches until the end of round five.

    Legacy and Future Prospects

His journey from the humble streets of Kratie to the bright lights of the national and international stage serves as an inspiration to many aspiring fighters across Cambodia and beyond. With many years still ahead in his career, the fighting community watches with bated breath as The Gecko King continues to build his legacy, one fight at a time.
